Viktor Korz is a brutalist abstract painter working on a monumental scale. Born and raised in New York City to German immigrant parents, Korz’s work is deeply shaped by the tension between his European heritage and the raw, kinetic energy of the American metropolis. Originally trained as a structural welder in Queens, his art is deeply tactile, utilizing materials like asphalt, cement, charcoal, and soot applied to canvas with trowels and brooms. Currently based in New York, his paintings are characterized by aggressive, gestural marks, heavy black impasto, and stark, dramatic contrasts, exploring the relationship between structured urban form and chaotic void.
